Perhaps the challenge that Liz Phair presented the music scene with her appearance on the national stage, with her brutally honest lyrics and sexy baritone voice was only to last one album. While Exile in Guyville was almost a gamble by Matador Records at the time, Liz Phair was never really able to repeat that initial success and buzz she created, instead releasing several albums to mixed reviews and limited sales.
